Okay after my last Sunday paper coupon failure I was prepared this Sunday and got my paper WITH the coupons in it. I held my ground and looked through my paper before taking it and all the coupon ads were there and ready for me to look through them. Wyatt and I headed home and he chalked on the sidewalk in the cool morning air while I scoured the coupons. I have to say I was very disappointed. :( I thought I was going to find these great coupons and they would all be worth $0.75-$1.00 or higher and make my day. Most of the coupons were only worth a quarter or fifty-cents, blah. The other bad part was that most of the coupons were for things I don't use. Now I know from watching Extreme Couponing they don't care about the brand it's mainly about the product itself. I'm not a product snob by any means. We generally buy store brand items and those things we don't buy store brand are items that we buy a certain name brand and have always bought.
So my mission this week is to make some comparisons for different products we always buy and comparing some of my coupons. I'm also going to go to Dillon's and get a store loyalty card. Big step for me because I have always felt like I shouldn't have to get a card to get a discount. Tomorrow is also the day when ads will come out in the paper so I can look through them and get an idea of what is really on sale and how I can use the small pile of coupons I got from the paper. Stay posted!!
have you ever used coupons.com? it is awesome as well. and i also use a site called www.forthemommas.com for coupons. she notifies you when new coupons are up online and you can order coupon books and stuff. i'm proud of you for trying! people in bigger cities have lots of options!
ReplyDeleteI tried using coupons when I started staying home at the beginning of this year and did not have much luck. We have two grocery stores that will double and tripple coupons up to certain cents off. I also used the online coupon sites that Chlese mentioned, but most of them (online) specifically say not to be doubled or trippled, which takes alot of the value away from them. But, it just did not seem to work out for me. I also looked at the ads to try to find stuff on sale as well, but it just was too overwhelming for me. I just seemed to be running all over town trying to save money when I was just spending alot of time and I don't think saving much money. I am just not patient or organized enough. And most of the stuff I found coupons for I didn't even buy.. Like alot of convenience foods.. But don't let me discourage you!!! I now just look a the ads for two stores right down the street from me and if they have something that I need and is a good price I might go and get it. If I find a coupon in a paper or something I might use it. But I have to keep in mind how much money it costs me to get there and back. I once went to a store that is like 7 miles from my house to save $1.00/lb on chickn breasts... That was I all I went ther for and then went back home. I then realized that I spent $3.85 in fuel to get there plus loaded Landon up in the car, got out, checked out and drove back home in traffic for no savings.. I do use coupons I get in the mail for diapers.. which I have only bought once.. since I use cloth, but it saved me $3 on something I was going to buy anyway.... whew.... sorry for the long comment.... Good Luck Couponing!!
ReplyDeletethanks chelse and diana for the inspiration to keep trying! i'm definately going to check out those websites. i've been on a few but they are just so freaking busy and it seems like i never find what it is that i'm needing, information!! i'm going to try out the sunday paper couponing for the summer and see how it goes. hopefully something good will come out of all of this. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso check out smartsource.com. Usually between smart source and coupons.com, they have all the same and more coupons than are in the paper each week. And, you only have to print off what you will actually use...
