Today I had my appointment with a doctor to see about my foot. Aside from waiting forever and being punctual which made for a much longer wait, the appointment was good.
The doctor told me that it's either tendinitis or a stress fracture. He did give me some options of what I could do. Conservatively stay off it for 4-6 weeks and then start training again slowly. NO! Aggressively give a steroid shot in my foot where the pain is and then see a podiatrist. Not a permanent solution by any means but it could mean that I will get to run my races in March and April. Hmmmm! What to do!
They took x-rays and I'm set up to see the podiatrist in March. Yep a month away from now, March! Apparently Manhattan needs more than two podiatrist.
I'm going to start putting two days between my runs and see if that helps. I'm also avoiding the stairs at work and using our elevator when applicable. Oh the joys of being on the third floor! I still climb them plenty but trying to reduce any unnecessary stress and quicken the healing process. I know that's an oxymoron in itself.
First run will be Wednesday before the blizzard comes to us and we'll see how it goes. Going for another three miler. Wish me luck!

Hey! You might get with Kassie @ Southern Girl Gets Fit. She had a foot issue and went to a physical therapist and he said it was probably tendonitis and gave her a ton of stretches to do and she said it really helped.
ReplyDeleteDid the x-ray show a fracture? If not, doing those stretches will really help!
Thanks for that! I will definitely have to email her and see what she did to help it.
