Playing school

Now I don't normally play "school" with my child because I get to "play" school everyday as my job but this morning we tried it out. My mom bought Wyatt a preschool activity book at Sam's Club several months ago and he really just liked to look at the pictures and comment on them but today he actually wanted to do the activities in it. He was looking at the pages where you had to circle items that were of a certain color. So I read the directions and then he used his marker to circle the correct pictures. I wasn't surprised to see that he could pick out the colors but I was surprised that he actually listened to me read the directions and then followed them.

The second page is where you can tell that he lost interest and just wanted to color the items he liked best.

So we tried one more page and then called it quits.
As you can see from the last two pages he was engaged until then. I was happy with what he did and didn't push him any farther. Even though I'm a teacher I don't try to push Wyatt to do more than what I think he's capable of and WANTS to do. I'm sure this will change once he's in school and it will start being less of what he wants and more of what he should do but we'll cross that bridge when we get there, no rush!!
