Let me preface this post by saying that this morning it decided to snow! The forecast said snow but it never actually snows when they say; why it decided to start now I have no idea.
So Wyatt and I wake-up to the sight of snow and are very excited. (I was going to get a picture but knew it would stay around so I would get one later. P.S. The snow was all melted by the time I got home.) We get around and start heading out to Paxico. I decided to take K-99 because since it is a frequently traveled road it should be cleared off by now.
Well, once we got started we found out that KDOT hadn't done anything to clear the road. So we go slow and take our time traveling. I see one vehicle in the ditch and see that they had Texas tags so I just know everything will be okay because they just don't know how to drive in KS snow. As I continue my trek I start seeing more and more vehicles in the ditches. The car in front of me slams on its breaks. I remain calm and just tap mine and end up following the tracks of a vehicle that went into the ditch moments before I did. The ditch wouldn't have been so bad but I almost took out the speed limit sign. I was literally inches from hitting it. I could have stuck my hand out and hit the pole if I wanted to.
Once we finally come to a stop in the ditch and I checked both Wyatt and myself to see if we were okay. I decide to try my 4x4 and see if I can climb out. Voila it worked. So I continued on towards Paxico and then head to Manhattan. I got to school at about 8:25am and frantically try to get everything started and ready for the day.
Needless to say I have everything completely copies and planned for the week and will not be traveling if the weather does that again or worse. There's something about traveling in bad weather if it's just you but when you have a baby in the car it just becomes too risky. Oh the life I live now. I wouldn't have had second thought about traveling in the snow and muck but when we were in the ditch all I could think was if we are stuck how am I going to keep him warm and get him home. Luckily I'm always prepared, that's what good Girl Scouts always do!!
I'm glad to read that you and Wyatt are OK. That is an awful feeling going into the ditch and knowning that you have your little one with you. Makes you appreciate the Mommy/Son time even more. Love you guys!
ReplyDeleteGirl Scouts are always prepared and as a teacher and a momma...you are triple ready. I always have a tupperware container in the back with everything that I might need in case something were to happen. Extra blankets, coats, gloves, and all the safety stuff. After I married Jeff he even added some MRE's lol* Which are disgusting but are helpful if you ever need them. Be safe and enjoy your boy!
ReplyDeleteWow--
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're okay... can't believe you didn't mention this... Of course, you are always prepared with lessons! That's the Sara I know and love!:)
