Toddler Bed-Night #2

Well I would like to say that night #2 was as great as night #1 but it wasn't! He went to bed like usual and then around 3am woke up crying. I went in and rocked him and put him back down and thought all was well. Little did I know that that was just the beginning. We spent the next hour getting up and rocking and laying with him in bed. He would fall asleep and then wake up minutes later crying. I went in and laid with him one final time and thought he was asleep. I went back to bed and everything was good until I heard the sound of little feet coming into the room. I don't know how long he was up wondering but it was 4am and I just let him climb into bed with us. For those of you that read this blog know that I don't sleep with Wyatt or let him sleep with me. But I was desperate and just let him get in bed with us. After about ten minutes I decided that he had been comforted enough and we walked back to his bed. He laid down and finally went to sleep. Then I spent the next half-hour thinking that I kept hearing him getting up and that he was wondering around the upstairs. I eventually fell asleep and was awoken by that sweet boy again but around 7am, much more reasonable. I hope this is just an adjustment period and I'm so glad that I waited until Summer to do this because if this happened during the school year it would not be a pretty picture. I'm pretty sure the crib rail would have been put back on this morning! Our plan of attack is now putting a gate up in his doorway and maybe seeing that will derail him from getting up. Fingers crossed!!

  1. I don't know if you want any advice, but one of my friends said that she would just put her child back in bed each time he got out. She wouldn't way anything to him, just pick him up, lay him down and leave. That way you aren't giving positive or negative reinforcement, just simply stating that he lays in his bed. I don't have any experience yet because Clark is still in his crib, but it has been something that has been on my mind and I've been gathering information to try and ready ourselves. Good luck and I hope it goes more smoothly!
