Allergic Reaction?

So if you read my Friday post then you know that Wyatt was diagnosed with an ear infection and given Amoxycillan to treat it. You would also know that he had been running a very high fever for several days before hand. Well last night, after I gave Wyatt his evening dose of medicine he broke out into a rash. Now when I got his prescription the pharmacist was very clear that if he broke out into a rash to stop the medicine immediately and call the doctor. So that's exactly what I did.

This morning I called the doctor's office and told them the situation and the nurse told me that it wasn't an allergic reaction. It was probably just a coincidence and the rash wasn't from the medicine. I then told her that he still has the rash and that apparently convinced her that it wasn't due to the medication. After a lunch of consulting with fellow momma teachers I decided I didn't like the answer they gave me and I want Wyatt on another medicine.

I'm now playing the waiting game for a doctor/nurse to call me back with another prescription for a different medicine. It is 7:35pm and I still haven't heard anything since 2:30pm and it looks like I'm going to have to play bad momma on the phone with them tomorrow. Get ready receptionist/nurse it's not going to be pretty!! And that's a promise.

  1. i have no clue if its the medicine, but to me it sounds like he could have had roseola (google it). it presents as a high fever for 3-5 days and then usually within 12-24 hours of the fever breaking they get a rash that lasts 2-4 days....
you might bring that up with the doctor? hope you figure it out - whatever it is!
